Drawing in Color: Light & Shadow


Light and shadow work together to create complex tonal relationships, which are required to help us make sense of what we see in the world around us. Learn how to break down the anatomy of light and shadow with simple steps that will assist you in creating the illusion of volume in your drawings. Explore techniques and tools that will also help you translate your observations onto paper in a realistic manner, or use this class as a refresher to practice your drawing skills within a studio environment.

Meets: (4) Saturdays, 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM (3-hour duration)
Dates: Jan. 8, 15, 22 & 29 in 2022
Location: TPS Art Center (2447 N. Los Altos, Tucson, Arizona 85705)

Instructor: Jill Bauman
Format: Demonstration, lecture, and, plenty of individual attention or feedback from your instructor, during hands-on studio practice.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Medium: Colored pencils, water-soluble colored pencils, graphite, or any 2D drawing medium is also welcome.
Techniques: Specific to drawing with an introduction to water-soluble colored pencils techniques for stunning effects in shadow areas.
Materials: The instructor will email a list prior to the first day of class, some supplies will be available for exploration.
