Expand your visual vocabulary with a variety of drawing techniques that will improve how you communicate your message. Drawing includes the basic "vocabulary" of line, shape & value used to develop complex ideas into paintings, mixed media, sculpture, or works of art. In this class, you will explore a variety of drawing mediums, find out how to get the most out of your medium, and experiment with each on a small scale. Practice drawing from life, using preliminary sketches to clarify your ideas, and discover a wide variety of new techniques. Whether you consider yourself a beginner or intermediate, this class will improve your skills, build your visual vocabulary and confidence!

Meets: (4) Saturday Afternoons 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM (3-hour duration)
Dates: Mar. 29, Apr. 5, 19, & 26 in 2020
Location: TPS Art Center (2447 N. Los Altos, Tucson, Arizona 85705)

Instructor: Linda Chappel
Format: Demonstration, lecture, & one-on-one instruction provided during hands-on practice.
Level: Absolute Beginner to Beginner, all levels are welcome!

Medium: Graphite, charcoal, sanguine, pen & ink, pastel
Technique: A variety of drawing medium techniques and preliminary sketches
Materials: All materials will be provided. Bring a sketchbook, notebook, or something to take notes on.

Ideal for anyone painting, who would like to practice within a studio setting, learn from live demonstrations, and receive individual guidance. Topics will include oil or acrylic painting from outdoor sketches, creating compositions, and the pitfalls of reference photography. In-class demonstrations will focus on how to use the building blocks of shapes, values, edges, and colors to improve your landscape paintings.


Meets: (4) Sundays, 9:30 AM - 12:30 PM (3-hour duration)
Dates: Mar. 29, Apr. 5, 19 & 26 in 2020
Location: TPS Art Center (2447 N. Los Altos, Tucson, Arizona 85705)

Instructor: Christy Olsen
Format: Demonstration, lecture, & one-on-one instruction provided during hands-on practice.
Level: Beginner to Intermediate

Medium: Oil, Acrylic, Water-based Oils, or Pastels are Welcome!
*Note: Please use Gamsol or odorless mineral spirits during class. For your safety, please dispose of any oily or solvent-soaked rags in the red non-flammable marked containers.
Technique: Painting in oils with a wide range of artistic styles from realism to abstraction.
Materials: The instructor will email the materials list prior to the first day of class. Students are encouraged to bring in their own reference photographs to use for practice.

If you love making art, learn through creative play. Practice new techniques, simply enjoy the creative process or the act of creating something. Learn several monotype and mark-making techniques and make one-of-a-kind prints. We will use a variety of tools and techniques and apply images and marks to several media, including various types of paper and textiles. This class will also cover rust dying on paper. Use your creations for collage elements, backgrounds for other art pieces, so save them just as they are! No experience necessary, just is open to trying new techniques and tools to create one-of-a-kind prints!

Format: Demonstration, lecture, & one-on-one instruction provided during hands-on practice.
Level: Absolute Beginner to Beginner, all levels are welcome!

Medium: Mixed Media, most all mediums are welcome, demonstrations will be performed in mixed media.
Technique: Specific to Mono-types & Monoprints, How to Mono-print with a gel plate & rust dying.
