Explore new ideas, express thoughts and practice demonstrated art journaling techniques. Create one of a kind artist book! Combine & fill the pages with your own artwork, images, text, words, or ephemera under a common theme. Paint, stencil, collage, or stamp using a variety of materials. All you need are some supplies and a willingness to play. Learn how to create underpaintings, textures, or layers using demonstrated mixed media techniques.

Medium: Mixed Media, most all mediums are welcome, demonstrations will be performed in mixed media.
Technique: Specific to Art Journaling
Materials: All materials will be provided. Bring a sketchbook, notebook, or something to take notes on.

Ideal for anyone, who would like to explore new drawing techniques, outside "on location." Learn approach to drawing from observation, the process, and tools needed to work outdoors using natural sunlight. Capture landscapes & the Sonoran desert with appealing compositions that convey a sense of space or depth. Explore new & useful techniques for capturing plants, vegetation, texture & the sky.

Intensive Introduction to Encaustic


Explore the fascinating unbounded medium of encaustic! If you’ve ever been curious, this two-day workshop will teach how to create luminous paintings, using heated, pigmented beeswax. Beginners to intermediates are welcome! Learn the process, recipes, equipment, and studio setup needed to practice with encaustic. Discover the history of this ancient medium and learn techniques that date back thousands of years.

Demonstrations will include texture, substrates, grounds surface techniques, collage, mixed media, and 3-D applications with plenty of individual one on one instruction. Use of all equipment, tools and some consumable materials will be included.

Meets: (2) Days on Saturday & Sunday, 9:00 AM - 4:30 PM (1-hour lunch break each day)
Dates: Mar. 9 & 10 in 2019

Format: Lecture & demonstration. Studio practice with individual feedback or one-on-one instruction will be provided. Maximum enrollment is 8.
Level: Absolute Beginner, Beginner, or Intermediate, all levels are welcome!

Medium: Encaustic
Technique: Texture, substrates, grounds surface, collage, mixed media, and 3-D applications
Materials: Class includes all use of encaustic equipment, tools, & all consumable materials. Bring notepaper, pen or pencil. Several images of your favorite artist's work, an image of any of your own favorite artwork (to share your artistic sensibility). Wear or bring an apron and closed-toed shoes to work in the studio.
