What is Mono-typing? Explore Printmaking & Mark Making


Learn several monotype and mark-making techniques and make one-of-a-kind prints. We will use a variety of tools and techniques and apply images and marks to several media, including various types of paper and textiles. No experience is necessary just be open to trying new techniques and tools to create one-of-a-kind prints!

Location: TPS Art Center (2447 N. Los Altos, Tucson, Arizona 85705)

Instructor: Michele Vaughan
Format: Demonstration, lecture, & one-on-one instruction provided during hands-on practice.
Level: Absolute Beginner to Beginner, all levels are welcome!

Medium: Mixed Media, most all mediums are welcome, demonstrations will be performed in mixed media.
Technique: Specific to Mono-types & Monoprints, How to Mono-print with a gel plate.
Materials: All materials will be provided. Bring a sketchbook, notebook, or something to take notes on.

  • Monotype and mark-making techniques include:
  • Additive and subtractive methods
  • Using botanicals, stencils, and other elements to create shapes
  • Using found objects to create texture
  • Layering paint and ink to create a multi-dimensional look
  • Mark making with a variety of tools, including brayers, brushes, and everyday objects
