Facial Features: Drawing the Mouth

Discover a simplified approach with expert guidelines to the complex task of drawing human anatomy. Ideal for anyone interested in portraits or figure drawing! Our brains will extract relevant information for facial recognition principally from the eyes and secondly from the mouth. The mouth is an essential feature for recognizing familiar faces. Subtle mouth movements are also crucial to perceive human emotion. We will study and practice drawing the human mouth from a detailed plaster cast and then from a live model. All drawing mediums are welcome!

Facial Features: Drawing the Nose

Discover a simplified approach with expert guidelines to the complex task of drawing human anatomy. Ideal for anyone interested in portraits or figure drawing! Do your noses look like cartoons? In portraiture, the nose gives character to the face but, no two noses are alike. The key is observation. The nose shadow adds structure and creates the illusion of form. Capturing the value relationships is paramount. We will study and practice drawing the human nose from a detailed plaster cast and then from a live model. All drawing mediums are welcome!

Watercolor with a Focus on Value (Light & Dark) Relationships

Watercolor with a Focus on Value (Light & Dark) Relationships

Have people told you that watercolor is a difficult medium? Let's dispel that myth as you explore the attributes of watercolor paints with Stacy Egan. 'Value' helps us visually determine one shape from another, it also describes the lightness or darkness of a color relative to its surroundings. In this class, you will work through a series of exercises specific to watercolor that will help you control your lights and darks.

Artwork by Stacy Egan

Learn how to maintain light areas with masking techniques, preserving the white of the paper, and how to handle highlights. Create luscious darks by slowly building up layers and find out how to control the amount of water in your brush. You will then apply these techniques within a larger piece.
