Introduction to Plein Air


In Plein Air, we work from observation out of doors. This class is ideal for any drawer or painter with some experience, who would like to work within a studio setting to learn the tools and logistics for practicing Plein Air or working outside. Set up will vary slightly depending on your medium.

Meets: (2) Tuesday Afternoons at 1:30 PM - 4:30 PM (3-hour duration)
Dates: Feb. 21, 28 in 2017
Location: TPS Art Center (2447 N. Los Altos, Tucson, Arizona 85705)

Instructor: Meredith Milstead
Format: Demonstration, lecture, & one-on-one instruction provided during hands-on practice.
Level: Absolute Beginner to Beginner, all levels are welcome!

Medium: Oil Painting, Pastel or Pastel Pencils
Technique: Approach to outdoor or Plein Air painting from life, including logistics and setup. Note: Setup will vary, depending on your medium
Materials: The instructor will email the materials list prior to the first day of class.

This class is the introduction to mixed media that you have been waiting for! Work on expanding your vocabulary through drawing from a still-life. This course will encourage developing individual styles and stress how drawing can expand our creative thinking.

Using interactive and experimental studio projects combined with informative lectures, Linda Chappel inspires you with Art History in a class designed for artists of all levels! Ideal for art lovers, museum-goers, and artists of any skill level who seek to expand their knowledge of artistic styles to find their creative pathway or unique "visual voice!."

Forbidden Fruit Picker by Wangechin Mutu (The Museum of Fine Arts, Houston)

These classes will present inspiring artistic styles within an engaging studio setting, where participants will complete their art projects each session. By the end of each series, students will have a basic understanding of each style presented and will be able to draw from art history or use art styles of the past as a creative springboard for their own artwork and/or for an added dimension in appreciating art.

This series covers the Abstract Expressionism, Fauvism, & Futurism movements, taught by instructor Linda Chappel, who has 15+ years of teaching college-level Art History combined with her own active studio art practice.
